Everything New in the iOS 16 Photos and Camera Apps

Almost all of Apple’s primary built-in iPhone applications, including the Photos and Camera apps, were upgraded with new functionality in iOS 16. Photographs offers a number of new features, including the ability to delete duplicates and certain restricted folders for sensitive photos, as well as language translation and performance enhancements for iPhone 13 users.

Photos

Albums with Locked Photos, Hidden Photos, and Recently Deleted Photos

Both the “Hidden” and “Recently Deleted” albums under Utilities in the iOS 16 Photos app are locked with Face ID or Touch ID and cannot be accessed without biometric identification or a password.

This safeguards photographs that you’ve deleted or designated as hidden. Without further verification, anybody with access to your unlocked phone will be unable to open these albums.

Detection of Duplicates

With iOS 16, your iPhone will automatically recognise any duplicate photographs in your Photos app. Duplicate photographs will appear in a “Duplicates” album under Utilities under Photos, where you may combine them to conserve space and decrease clutter.

The Duplicates album appears only if your library contains picture duplicates, and the merging function is intelligent. It will maintain the greatest detail and information, resulting in the best picture possible.

If you have one high-resolution copy of a picture and another with additional information, the Photographs app will merge the best characteristics of both photos into a single image.

Edits by Copy and Paste

If you want to edit numerous images in the same manner, or if you’ve made changes to one photo that you want to mimic in another, you may utilise iOS 16’s new copy and paste modifications features.

To utilise the feature, edit a picture and then hit the three-dot symbol in the top right corner. Tap on Replicate Edits to copy everything that has been done to the picture. To acquire the same edits, open another picture, tap on the three dot symbol again, and then choose the Paste Edits function.

Redo and Undo Edits

IOS 16 adds basic undo and redo buttons to picture editing, a capability that was lacking in previous versions of iOS. You may delete adjustments to photographs one by one using the undo and redo buttons, rather than needing to cancel all edits by reversing an image fully.

The undo and redo buttons are positioned in the top left corner of the picture editing interface and appear after you’ve made an alteration to a photo using the Photos app’s built-in editing capabilities. You can undo and/or redo each modification separately, making it easier to go back and fix a mistake.

Sorting People Albums

In iOS 16, Apple implemented a modest but significant change: the ability to sort the dedicated People album by name. You may change the sorting from “Custom Order” to “Name” by opening the People album and tapping on the two arrow keys. When you choose Name, the persons in the album are rearranged alphabetically.

ICloud Shared Photo Library

ICloud Shared Photo Library iOS 16 introduces an iCloud Shared Photo Library, which is similar to the conventional iCloud Photo Library but may be shared with up to five additional users.

Remove the subject from the background

Though not officially a Photos app feature, lift topic from backdrop is one of the more entertaining incidental additions to iOS 16, acting as a mini-version of Photoshop. It may be used to extract the topic from any picture or photo.

To utilize it in the Photos app, open a picture and then long press on the photo’s primary subject until it lights up. You may then drag it out or use the “copy” option to copy it to the clipboard. You may paste it onto another picture or send it as a Messages sticker.

Updates to Memory

Toggle Featured Content

IOS 16 includes an option to block Featured Photos and Memories from appearing in For You, Photos Search, and Widgets.

Camera

Portrait Photos with Camera Foreground Blur

Translate Camera

Simply launch the Camera app and aim it at the text you wish to translate. To receive a quick translation, press on the text selection button after selecting the detected text.

Pause the display to see translations superimposed on text and zoom in for a closer look. It’s similar to the Translate camera tool, which has long been available in the Google Translate app, and it’s useful for when you simply need a fast translation but don’t want to take a picture.

Improved Cinematic Mode Quality

In iOS 16, the Cinematic mode video recording capability on iPhone 13 devices is more accurate. It provides a superior depth-of-field appearance for profile angles, as well as around the edges of hair and spectacles.
