Evans Hankey to become Apple’s first female VP of Industrial Design

Later this year, when Chief Design Officer Jony Ive leaves Apple to start his own independent design firm, Evans Hankey, the company’s first female vice president of industrial design, will take over as division head.

At more than 300 patents to her credit, Hankey has worked with Apple for many years and has collaborated with Jony Ive on devices including the iMac and iPhone.

The existing Chief Design Officer position, held by Jony Ive, will be shared between Hankey and Alan Dye, who will serve as Apple’s Vice President of Human Interface Design. Both will report to Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Under the outstanding direction of Evans, Alan, and Jeff, who have been among my closest colleagues, the team will undoubtedly succeed. Ive stated in an official statement released by Apple: “I have the highest faith in my creative colleagues at Apple, who continue to be my closest friends, and I look forward to working with them for many years to come.
