Apple’s Rumored 12-Inch MacBook: What We Know

Earlier in 2019, Apple stopped selling a 12-inch Retina MacBook with a low-power Core M processor. Since then, the 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models have remained Apple’s smallest laptops, but recent speculations suggest that the company may be bringing back a smaller 12-inch form factor.

Sizing

At this point, we are unaware of the 12-inch MacBook’s details, including its precise dimensions beyond the 12-inch speculation. The 12-inch MacBook would be the smallest laptop available from Apple, smaller even than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Design

Similar to size, there are currently few reports concerning the 12-inch MacBook’s appearance. Any 12-inch MacBook that is released is likely to resemble the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro quite a bit since Apple uses the same fundamental design for both models.

The MacBook’s potential family is unknown. It may be a MacBook Air or it might fall under the umbrella of “MacBook.” It may possibly join the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro in taking the place of the 13-inch model.

Silicon Chip from Apple

The 12-inch MacBook is still in the early phases of development, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, although an M3 processor is anticipated to be included in the device.

Majin Bu, a Twitter user with a mixed history, hypothesised that it may be a MacBook Pro with the newest M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. The 12-core CPU and up to 38-core GPU on the M2 Max chip are projected to be an advance above the M1 Max’s 10-core CPU and 32-core GPU. If this report is true or not is not yet known.

12-inch MacBook Debate

Bloomberg and other trustworthy sources have claimed that a 12-inch MacBook is in the works, but a different source, who often has good information about Apple’s intentions, is doubtful.

Ross Young, a display expert, said he’s unsure if Apple is developing a 12-inch model. According to Young, firms in Apple’s supply chain are not aware of development on a 12-inch computer since Apple is now concentrating on laptops that are 13 inches or bigger.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, also said that he was unaware of any 12-inch MacBook speculations.

Release Date

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, if the 12-inch MacBook is in fact in development, it might debut towards the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024.
