Apple’s 2022 Event Plans: New Products and Software Coming in 2022

Apple typically hosts three to four events each year. A spring event is often held in March, the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, an event in September that is centred on the iPhone and Apple Watch, and sometimes an event in October if iPads or Macs are anticipated in the autumn.

Make sure to come back often since we’re keeping track of all the upcoming Apple events in this guide and what to anticipate from each one. 2022 will likely see a number of events, including the September iPhone event and WWDC.

March 8 “Peek Performance” Event for spring 2022

In March 2022, Apple conducted a “Peek Performance” event where the first items of the year were unveiled.

Apple's 2022 Event Plans New Products and Software Coming in 2022-1

Apple announced the third-generation iPhone SE with 5G and an A15 processor, the fifth-generation iPad Air with an M1 chip and 5G, the Mac Studio mini-Mac pro hybrid, and the Studio Display, a new 27-inch 5K display with a $1,599 price tag.

WWDC

On Monday, June 6, Apple presented its keynote address for the Worldwide Developers Conference, during which new hardware and software items were unveiled.

The following new versions of Apple’s software were unveiled: iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16. All of them are now available for developer testing and will be distributed in the autumn.

The M2 MacBook Air and the M2 13-inch MacBook Pro were introduced by Apple at WWDC, marking the first hardware launch in June in a number of years.

Event on September 7

On September 7, Apple will conduct a “Far Out” event where the firm will unveil the new iPhone 14 models and the Apple Watch Series 8, as well as perhaps make additional announcements. On Friday, September 9, preorders for new iPhones and Apple Watches might start, with a launch the following Friday, on Friday, September 16.

14th iPhone

The 6.1-inch iPhone 14, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max are the four iPhone 14 models that we anticipate will be available in 2022. The 5.4-inch iPhone 14 mini won’t exist.

The “hole-punch” design of the iPhone 14 Pro models is anticipated to eliminate the notch in favour of a wider display surface. The Face ID hardware will be in a second pill-shaped cutout, which will also house the front-facing camera. Other potential upgrades include a faster 5G modem, an always-on display (only for Pro versions), a titanium frame for the Pro models, camera enhancements, and a faster A16 processor.

Series 8 Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Pro

New health capabilities for the Apple Watch Series 8 may include temperature sensing and sleep apnea detection. More sophisticated functions, such as blood glucose monitoring and blood pressure measures, are also conceivable but may not be released for some time.

Car collision detection may be a feature in Series 8, and a tough “Apple Watch Pro” model that can withstand heavy use is anticipated. We anticipate an Apple Watch SE to launch along with the Series 8.

Event in October/November

Apple is said to be organizing an event for October when the 10th-generation low-cost iPad, which is anticipated to undergo a facelift, and updated iPad Pro versions would be unveiled. Updated versions of the Mac Pro and Mac mini are also a possibility.

While earlier speculations suggested that Apple may introduce its AR/VR headset at WWDC, the company is now having development challenges, making a WWDC appearance less probable.

The earliest the AR/VR headset might be released is at the end of 2022, but Apple may also delay it until 2023, so there’s a possibility we won’t see it at all in 2022. If an AR/VR headset is introduced in 2022, it will be during a gathering in the late autumn.

IOS Pro

The 11-inch iPad Pro may have the same mini-LED display as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro when Apple reportedly updates the iPad Pro in 2022. It’s also possible that the iPad Pro will include a glass back that enables wireless charging, as well as a reverse wireless charging function that enables the iPad Pro to charge accessories like the AirPods.

Affordable 10th-Generation iPad

Apple is developing a new model of the inexpensive iPad that is anticipated to include a bigger 10.5-inch display, an A14 processor, 5G, and a USB-C connection. It’s possible that the iPad may be redesigned to have flat sides like the iPad mini, but the Touch ID Home button is still anticipated to remain.

Apple MacBook Pro 13″

Apple is developing a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with an 8-core CPU and 9 or 10 core GPU that might employ the upcoming M2 chip. The M2 chip’s release date is unknown, although it most likely won’t happen until the autumn. The 13-inch MacBook Pro might get the moniker “MacBook” instead of “MacBook Pro,” according to Apple.

Apple Mini

Apple is creating a more expensive Mac mini that will have more ports and a more potent Apple silicon processor. It might feature a new design and is anticipated to employ M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. When exactly it could be launched is unknown.

Apple Mac

The performance of the M1 Ultra in the Mac Studio would be doubled by the revised Mac Pro, which might include an Apple silicon chip with up to 40 compute cores and 128 graphics cores. We don’t anticipate any design changes for the Mac Pro, and the upgrade will see Apple finish switching all of its Mac products on Apple silicon.

Unknown Release Date Products

We don’t yet know the precise release dates of a number of other reported new items that are expected in 2022. What’s next is as follows:

AirPods Pro: Apple is developing a more portable version of the AirPods Pro with a new wireless chip. According to the design, the small stem that protrudes from the bottom has been removed, leaving a more rounded appearance that is more similar to competitive wire-free earbuds from Google and Samsung.

Larger iMac – According to rumours, Apple is developing a larger-screen iMac that will be marketed alongside the 24-inch model. This iMac may be referred to as the “iMac Pro.” A 27-inch mini-LED display with ProMotion technology, an architecture akin to the Pro Display XDR, and M1 Pro/M1 Max processors might be included.

14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro – Apple is developing upgraded editions of the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that will feature M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. The next machines are now anticipated to launch in 2023, and the M2 Max chip will have a 12-core CPU and a 38-core GPU.

Further in the Future

AR/VR Headset – Apple is reportedly developing an augmented/virtual reality headgear with a specialised high-end display, an integrated CPU, and a “rOS” or reality operating system. Touch panels, voice activation, and hand gestures will be used for input, and the device is expected to cost roughly $3,000. The AR/VR headset could be available by the end of 2022, but since Apple is having development problems, it might be delayed until 2023.

Foldable iPhone – Apple is supposedly developing a foldable iPhone that would reportedly measure between 7.5 and 8 inches and be on sale no earlier than 2023.

Apple Car – Although the story of the company’s electric car development has taken many turns, reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple is still planning to build a fully autonomous vehicle rather than just an autonomous vehicle software solution. The company expects to launch the vehicle sometime between 2023 and 2025.
