Gurman: Apple Considering Updated HomePod Mini alongside New High-End HomePod

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is apparently thinking about updating the HomePod small as part of its bigger push into the home device market, which involves delivering an upgraded version of the full-sized HomePod in the first quarter of 2023.

Gurman claims that Apple is thinking about upgrading the HomePod mini, which was unveiled in October 2020, in his most recent Power On newsletter. Gurman says there won’t likely be anything “super-impressive” in a potential upgrade but doesn’t go into specifics.

Following its discontinuation in March 2021, Apple intends to bring back the first full-sized HomePod, as has been previously reported. According to rumours, the revised HomePod will include an upgraded S8 CPU and maybe a new multi-touch display on top.

According to Gurman, the next full-sized HomePod is scheduled to be on sale in the first half of 2023, which is in accordance with a release date suggested by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In addition to a new full-sized HomePod and an improved HomePod small, Gurman has previously said that Apple is developing a number of other new items for the Home. The most ambitious project in development is apparently a speaker called HomePod that has Apple TV features and a FaceTime camera.

Apple is also developing a kitchen-specific gadget that combines an iPad with a speaker that is attached to a robotic arm. At least one of these two home goods, according to Gurman, should be on sale by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024.
