In the most recent issue of his “Power On” newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple will probably release its long-rumored second-generation AirPods Pro in the fall, and that we might also see new colours for the premium over-ear AirPods Max that could also release towards the end of the year.
“Also watch out for an AirPods Max makeover with new colours (and, we hope, a price drop—$550 is insane for those headphones),” Gurman concludes in reference to Apple’s upcoming AirPods Pro.
In 2020, Apple introduced the AirPods Max over-ear headphones. The headphones, which retail for $549, have a bespoke acoustic design, H1 chips, Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, and spatial audio.
Gurman said last year that other colours of the headphones would be introduced in the future, but has since stated that Apple is not working on a second-generation version of the AirPods Max.
Since the AirPods Max’s debut, Apple hasn’t added any new hues, and the headphones are still sold in their original Silver, Blue, Space Gray, Pink, and Green finishes. These hues are comparable to the two-toned hues of the 2021 M1 iMac Pro, with the exception of Yellow, Orange, and Purple and the addition of Space Gray.
There is no information on what additional colours Apple may add if new finishes are introduced, although it’s possible that the company will carry over the existing iMac colour options.
